OQAB
A campaign world for OQAB. Art direction, concept and character: Mohamed Gamal.
THE BRIEF.
01 · The creative challenge
A visual world around performance — distinctive, culturally grounded, ownable. Not another fitness campaign.
Dark gyms, chalk clouds, borrowed intensity — interchangeable.
02 · The concept is the campaign
He didn’t find a gym in the desert. He built one.
A man who built his training ground into the Saudi desert — a sand basin under a cliff, equipped by hand.
The desert is not a background. It is the gym: timber for chrome, stone for plates, rope for cables, a falcon for a mirror.
One decision does the brand’s work: endurance, self-reliance, belonging — said by the environment.
BUILDING THE WORLD.
03 · The art-direction board
-
Landscape
The Saudi desert — dunes, a sandstone cliff, an enormous sky.
-
Structure
A constructed ground — rig, rings, sled lane, timber deck.
-
Material
Oiled timber, honed stone, matte steel, rope, canvas, leather — handcrafted, never rusty.
-
Light
Hard low sun, long shadows, warm highlights, dust in the wind.
-
Human
One recurring athlete — the man who built it.
Buildings would make it a facility. The board’s rule: “No buildings, no walls, no concrete.”
THE CHARACTER.
04 · A character, not a random model
Candidates, then one face — held constant across every frame.
“This is NOT a fashion campaign. This is a casting session. The goal is to discover the face of the brand.”
AI AS PRODUCTION.
05 · The direction was human
AI was the production tool. The direction was human.
Every frame briefed like a photographer — subject, lens, light, and what must not appear. Ninety-plus briefs; the survivors obeyed.

[ One frame’s direction, verbatim ]
“Seen from a drone 80m up at a 75° angle, 24mm at f/9, the entire site legible in one frame… Low morning sun from the east throws every object’s long shadow across the pale sand, revealing the layout… No buildings, no roofs, no walls, no concrete, no branding, no text, no people, no CGI look.”
-
Environment
The world designed before any athlete entered it.
-
Variations
Same site, same light, new camera — never a new world per frame.
-
Exclusion lists
No runway lighting, no plastic skin, no CGI look.
-
Selection
The board holds the tries; the case shows the survivors.
